Stages in Learning to Drive: Sarah Walton School of Motoring, Blackburn and Hyndburn

Firstly obtain a provisional licence from the DVLA site (click on Driver Information page). Then contact me to arrange lessons.

During your lessons we will arrange a booking for the Theory Test. You should begin preparing for the Theory Test before or as soon as you start to drive, as you will be using it immediately.

When you are ready, we will book the Practical Test, which will include an eyesight test. Then you will be examined on your general driving and on two reversing exercises. These will be chosen from:

  • reversing around a corner
  • turning in the road
  • reverse parking
  • bay parking
  • You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

The test takes about 40 minutes.

Once you have passed you may want to do the Pass Plus modules. Some insurance companies will charge much lower premiums if you have taken part in the scheme. I also give motorway and refresher lessons, for those who have not driven for some time.

Direct Gov logo and link http://www.direct.gov.uk/drivingtest website explains the driving test process. Here you will also find information on the new independent driving section of the test, which begins from October 2010.
